We docked at 9AM after cruising past St Marks square with a narrative from the Ship's prot guide over the TV. We had already arranced for a Princess shuttle back to St Mark's Square via the outer canal. WE all pinched ourselves to make sure this was actually real, and we sauntered around the square before strolling up the many winding streets and alleys of Venice, crossing a myriad of canals, heading for the Rialto Bridge with many shopping/browsing stops along the way. WE found a little bistro for lunch (2.5 euro 'cover charge') and then continued through the maze of streets and bridges lacing Venice togheter. WE found our way to a lone gondolier, who agreed to take the 6 of us on a 30 minute cruise around some of the backwater canals for 60 euros. It was a highlight of the day for all of us as we were far from the 'tourists' and enjoying the peace and relative quiet as we floated past history.
WE continuted walking towards the Piazzale de Roma, the main transportation hub of Venice with postcard ready photo shots at every bend in the streets. At the P de Roma, we bought all-day passes for the Vaporetto tour of the grand canals and then caught the
People mover' back to the Marittima, where the Ruby is docked. We are recharging oout batteries over a buffet dinner soon, and ffour of us ( we bid Dave and Barb adieu tonight) will go off to see Venice by night.
