Split, Croatia yet another awesome port

We dropped anchor off the harbor of Split and tendered into the dock across from Diocletian's Palace. THe palace was built as is retirement home in 350AD adn covers 8 acres. He was a terror for christians, being responsible for the execution of many of them. The town's plaza along the waterfront is clean and very modern, home to several coffee houses and restaurants. The core of the palace has been transformed into a maze of shops and small markets with Diocletian's mausoleum and bell tower anchoring the center. Ironically, the Mausoleum had been converted into a Christian cathedral.
THe palace had it;s own water supply piped in via aquaducts from the outlying areas.
We stopped for Croatian Pizza and refreshments and paid using visa as tehy accept euros, but give change in Kronos as Croatia is not part of the EU. The crisp, cool morning air gave way to warm bright sunshine making the promenade an inviting spot for locals and toourists alike

On to Venice!
