Olympia/Katakolon

we arrived at the port of Katakolon behind the Serenade of the seas around 8am. after room service breakfast in hte cabin, we went down to the Princess theatre to disembark on our all day tour of the original Olympic village site and archaeolical dig. The wind picked up and the captain held off docking until around 9AM making our tour departure 1 hour behind. THEN we were advised that Olympia was 'closed' due to local labor strikes. we were offered a refund, or a 3 hour panoramic tour for $39 instead. we opted for the tour, which drove BY the Olympic site for a few pictures and then into the town of Olympia for 'free time' shopping. WE left the town of 500 around 130 and headed for the ship amid more lightning strikes and closeby thunder. When we got to teh port to board teh ship, the wind had increased to gale force and they held us back from boarding in order to secure the gangplanks. The ship had all of the thrusters working to PUSH us against the wind and hold the ship into the dock. After an hour, the captain announced that all shore excurisons in the afternoon were cancelled aand we would sail at 430 PM. He was to attend a Captain's cocktail party for frequent princess cruisers, but sent his regrets and we finally left the port around 7PM with the aid of a local tug. Seas tonight seem calmer, but the ship is still rocking a bit in the following sea. Off to Corfu tomorrow, and we hope the GReeks on that island understand the importance of tourist euros and won't shoot their tourist industry in the foot, like in Athens and Olympia. A serious reality check is needed to get Greece out this fiscal mess.......
